May 25th: Victoria BC
National Missing Children’s Day to see the rededication of Michael Dunahee’s “Tree of Hope”
Michael Dunahee went missing from the area of the Blanshard School property in Victoria BC on March 24 1991.
In March of 1992 students from Blanshard Elementary School dedicated a “Tree of Hope” and placed a plaque on the Blanshard School site, located across from the now Quadra Village Community Centre located at 901 Kings Road.
The “Tree of Hope” was planted and a plaque placed in remembrance of the first anniversary of the disappearance of Michael Dunahee. The neighbourhood of Quadra Village knows the tree as “Michael’s Tree”.
Twenty-five years has passed, a community centre has been built, the school has closed, the property is being redeveloped, yet the “Tree of Hope” continues to be a touchstone in the community and the search for Michael continues.
Child Find BC with the support of the Quadra Village community is hosting a public community event on May 25, 2016. May 25th is Missing Children’s Day and Green Ribbon Day in Canada.
The event is a rededication of this site and the “Tree of Hope”. Community leaders will be in attendance, along with the Dunahee family. Students from École Quadra School will be unveiling and rededicating a new plaque, along with a community bench and a new small garden encircling the, “Tree of Hope”.
A Missing Child is Everyone’s Responsibility.
